Where’s Ann Wagner?

Remember the Where’s Waldo books a decade or two ago?  Well, Ann Wagner is going Waldo one better.  While Waldo was ultimately always locatable in the picture, our esteemed Congressperson from the 2nd Congressional District in Missouri is nowhere in the picture, except maybe standing next to Donald Trump.

Indivisible STL hosted a well-organized and attended action today to try to flush out Congressperson Wagner.  Paul Gordon, coordinating this activity for Indivisible St. Louis, with the efforts of groups including MOPAG, MOMentum, and Kirkwood Citizens for Progress, lead approximately 85 people in a roadside protest from noon to 1 pm.  The roadside selected happened to be in front of Wagner’s largest campaign contributor, Edward Jones.  “We are thinking that if Congressperson Wagner won’t talk to her citizen constituents, perhaps her largest campaign contributor might encourage her in light of our presence.”
Incidentally, a KMOV film crew and reporter were on site.

The gathering positioned itself peacefully and respectfully on public property in front of the Edward Jones Building on Manchester Rd., just west of Ballas Rd.  The protesters chanted slogans like “Hey, Ho, Pay for Play has Got to Go” and “Town Hall, Town Hall.”

One of the protesters commented that she fears that it is a Republican strategy to not make themselves available to their constituents for substantive town hall meetings, at least here in Missouri, thinking that all this protesting will eventually go away. “They are very much mistaken.”  She concluded.

Traffic at that intersection was vigorous and by dint of horn honking exceptionally supportive.  Even truckers laid on their horns in support.  One protester carried a sign calling for a recall of Senator Blunt another elected official who does not readily face his constituents, but rather schedules events at odd hours of the day and sends surrogates to poorly advertised “mobile meetings,” referred to in the media as “Blunt Drive-By’s.”

Whether this event and others like it will flush Ann Wagner from hiding remains to be seen.  She is exceedingly fearful, it would seem, of public appearances and of facing her responsibility to represent her voting constituents, ready though she is to meet with the likes of Edward Jones, Wells Fargo and Met Life for a big dollar campaign contribution.  Perhaps the negative publicity generated at Edward Jones will work and the company will encourage Ann to be more civically responsible.

When asked if this event met his expectations, Paul Gordon stated simply “exceeded them.”
