The Education of a President

President Trump has made a number of serious and embarrassing remarks that show an understanding of history that is thin at best. He thought Frederick Douglass was still alive. He thought that Andrew Jackson could have prevented the Civil War from the grave. He did not know that historians and Americans generally have long been discussing the American Civil War and what lead up to it in an effort to understand the causes. President Trump wanted to know why no one asks, “Why did the Civil War have to happen?” when we have been asking it ever since the war began.

These mistakes are a distraction for the President. If you have any used American history books lying around the house, especially those covering the period leading up to the Civil War and including the war and Reconstruction, please consider sending them to the White House for the President to browse. We know that the President is not much of a reader, so if you have something that is profusely illustrated or that is in the form of a comic book that would be best. If you have a book on CD or a history course on CD that is even better. He can listen and tweet at the same time. Multitasking.

Please DO NOT attempt to send fireworks to Mar-A-Lago to provide alternate entertainment. Though Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross revealed that cruse missiles were considered after dinner entertainment at Mar-A-Lago, sending fireworks as a low cost alternative is illegal. It would be best to ask the President directly to refrain from using cruise missiles in lieu of fireworks at his resort. Please stick with books.

Thanks in advance for helping President Trump.
