Medicaid Expansion Continues To Fail

Missouri Releases March 2022 Benefit Reports

Medicaid Expansion continues to fail.

Despite experience in 40+ other states, including the recent example of Oklahoma which wanted expansion to succeed, Missouri’s bureaucrats actively work to keep needy and qualified people from gaining access to care.

Remember, projections were that 275,000 Missouri citizens would now qualify for care, most of them working folks in lower-paying jobs.  Six months after Missouri belated started accepting applications, just 83,686 have been accepted.

Wait!

The number of “custodial parents” getting Medicaid dropped from March 2021 to March 2022:  could it be that the 83,686 actually includes about 10,500 patients ‘transferred’ to Adult Expansion to make the numbers look better, that the actual gain works out to just about 12,000 citizens a month?  Note too how the number getting care through Women’s Health Services dropped from 47,064 last March to 13,670 this March.  Did those 34,000 get transferred too?

Want to see for yourself?  Go to  www.mo.dss/re and pull up the Monthly Management Report March 2022 for the Family Support Division and the MO HealthNet Division in the Department of Social Services.  Jump to page 45.

Again, the bottom line is that Medicaid Expansion in Missouri remains an abject failure – just like His Accidency and his political crony running MO HealthNet want it to be.  Boy, it’s a damn good thing health coverage is a luxury that no one really needs.

The number of Missourians on food stamps increased a bit from February to March.  Still, I maintain that this state ought to have another 100,000+ on SNAP.  Note too that the needless loss of $41 million in benefits since last March is also not a good thing for grocers or struggling families.
