- Keep informed on current events, using all available media.
- Subscribe to at least one newspaper.
- Write letters to the editor.
- Avoid name calling and generalizations. All people have legitimate concerns about their lives and their families.
- Listen much. Speak carefully. Sometimes, bite your tongue.
- Cultivate friendships inside the Trump base based on common values and genuine humanity.
- Be respectful in discussing your ideals. Argument can be destructive.
- Help people who belong to the Trump base at every opportunity.
- Support liberal political groups. This includes not only the Democratic Party, but other liberal social, justice, and civil rights groups as well.
- Defend those groups that are under attack whenever and wherever possible. Let them know they are supported.
On the lighter side…
- Drink a glass of port after dinner.
- Allow yourself one piece of chocolate.
- Contribute to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name.
- Contribute to the NAACP and Black Lives Matter in Rudy Giuliani’s name.
- Watch your favorite funny movie.
