Round 1 To Governor SEAL

Glenn Koenen

Early in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War, the title character (Tom Hanks) endures a quick crisis. An ambitious U.S. Attorney – a young Rudy Giuliani – zeroes in on the Texas Congressman over reports of rampant illegal drug use.  Then good news:  the witness against Charlie only saw him use cocaine outside the United States – and therefore beyond Giuliani reach!

Eric R. Greitens and his supporters need to remember that getting a felony case dropped does not mean that Governor SEAL is innocent, merely that he won’t risk jail for his conduct.

And, here in the state of Missouri, we must not forget that the governor winning Round 1 by default does nothing to improve our state’s reputation.  Note that the New York Times recap article, asks…

Who has called on Mr. Greitens to resign?

Pretty much everybody in Missouri politics.

Plus, they find that governor still has many supporters…

“Brandon Park, the lead pastor at Connection Point, an evangelical church

in Raytown, Mo., affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, said he did not

think Mr. Greitens should resign. He supports the governor’s anti-abortion

positions, and says evangelical Christians respect him for his policies. “I see a

lot of these personal attacks both on Trump and Greitens as a way to take

away attention from the ideals that matter most to evangelical Christians,”

he said. “It does seem to be a little bit of a witch hunt.”

So, we now live in a political environment where a prosecutor pursuing multiple felony cases is involved in a “witch hunt” and not a search for justice.

Of course, we must not forget recent history:  the invasion of privacy charge shined a bright light on Governor SEAL’s activities, helping to illuminate his campaign rules violations (including lying to the Missouri Ethics Commission about his campaign’s connection to The Mission Continues mailing information) and his pockets full of dark money.

While Greitens may have taken Round 1, stay tuned for the rest of the fight.

The Congressman has never been to rehab. They don’t serve whisky at rehab.
