Topic: Voter rights and issue of suppression in St. Louis

Speakers:

Gena Gunn McClendon, PhD in Urban Higher Education, is director of the Voter Access and Engagement and the Financial Capability and Asset Building initiatives at the Center for Social Development at the Washington University Brown School. Her work primarily involves policy research analysis and consultation with community-based programs, academic institutions, state and federal policymakers and advocacy groups. Her program development and policy advocacy work focuses on issues related to voter suppression and civic participation of low- and moderate-income households and marginalized populations. She also leads the Financial Capability and Asset Building Initiative, which focuses on the development and research of a post-secondary curriculum in financial social work. Other interest areas are the racial wealth gap and coalition development.

Vicki C. Washington is Chair of the St Louis Area Voter Initiative and was Associate VP of Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity at the University of Wisconsin.

–   Circle of Concern, a local food pantry supported by West County Democrats, is collecting canned goods including peanut butter, fish and meat as well as paper products.  Any such items brought to our monthly meetings will be delivered to the pantry. Cash and checks are welcome.

West County Democrats was formed by a group of concerned citizens.  The purposes of the organization are to educate its members on issues of public, cultural, or political concern, to encourage members to actively support Democratic candidates for political office, and to support social action projects or community support activities as approved by the membership.
