I found out about the schedule for Sen. Blunt’s Mobile Office meetings through the Women’s March on St. Louis Facebook page. The nearest one to me was in Eureka at the Eureka Hills Branch of the St. Louis County Library on January 24 at 9:30 a.m. I decided to attend.
I was a few minutes late. I walked into a packed room. There were no seats available and people were standing against the wall. Apparently, there are normally one or two people at a Mobile Office meeting. There were at least 40 people at this meeting. The staffer in front of the crowd appeared visibly shaken by the turnout and by the questions. There were no Trump supporters or even Republicans in attendance.
Comments given to the staffer to be communicated to Sen. Blunt included concerns about:
- The Affordable Care Act and universal access to quality health care.
- Betty Devos and overwhelming rejection of her as a nominee for the Department of Education.
- Cuts to programs for disabled children.
- Rep. Price, his financial entanglements, and rejection of him as a nominee for the Department of Health and Human Services.
- The failure of President Trump to provide his tax returns.
- President Trump’s violation of the Emolument Clause of the Constitution.
- The environment and President Trump’s nominee for the EPA.
- The blatant daily disregard for the truth and objective reality by President Trump and his Press Secretary, Sean Spicer.
- The poor relationship between President Trump and the Intelligence agencies.
Each of these topics was hit multiple times by multiple speakers. At one point the staffer threatened to end the meeting early because people were too noisy in asking their questions. The staffer was also shaken by a constituent taking video of the public meeting. She was worried about appearing on social media and about her safety and the safety of her children. This seemed a little odd since the audience was very cooperative and, for the most part, respectful. In my mind she was projecting Tea Party aggression and tactics onto the audience. The staffer was thanked numerous times for showing up.
Most of those attending were young women. Many of them were in the Millenial age group.
I think it would be good to pack these meetings every time they occur and to keep hammering away.

Please let me know the next time there is a mobile meeting, I will take off work if I have to.
You can find news on upcoming mobile offices here! Looks like all the ones in St. Louis are over for now, but I think he schedules them fairly often. Or he used to, who knows how they’re going to react to the turnout.

Please do post the next meeting – I can provide a ride if anyone needs one!
The staffer also told us that Senator Blunt does not host Town Hall type meetings. This would be a good time for us to tweet, call or email to request his appearance at a Town Hall meeting.
We are planning to do the same in Franklin County on January 31, 10-11am, Sullivan City Hall, 210 W. Washington, Sullivan, MO 63080. Come join us.
My friend Barbara and I will be driving from Kirkwood that morning.
I have seat belts for five if anyone wants a ride.

I hope to be at the next Blunt Town Hall in Eureka to help overwhelm that one. If anyone comes across information on public meetings by Blunt or Ann Wagner, would they please pass it along? The January 24 meeting showed that we can completely swarm a meeting and hijack the agenda. This, first of all, gets the issues we are concerned about on the radar of Blunt, Wagner and others of that ilk. Secondly, it has the effect of taking over a channel of communication. It hinders communication from the GOP faithful and creates noise in the channel. We have the numbers and can swamp them.
Thanks for showing up and reporting back.
