Topic: NRA Fraud: Fabrication of Second Amendment Right
Speaker: Burt Newman, University of Missouri, BS and BA, 1969; JD 1972
Burt practiced law in St. Louis for 45 years and was an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law for ten years.
He was the lead attorney in the Missouri vs Supreme Court 2004 challenge to conceal and carry laws. For five years he was the General Counsel for ACLU St. Louis and was named one of the ten best attorneys in Missouri for his work in the 2004 challenge to gun laws. He was co-counsel for the 2006 Missouri Supreme Court challenge to the Voter I.D. laws. For twenty years he has written and spoken to advocate for improved gun laws.
Burt is married to Stacey Newman who served four terms in the Missouri House and has been a strong supporter of safer gun laws and women’s issues.
He has three children and four grandchildren.
Circle of Concern, a local food pantry supported by West County Democrats, is collecting canned goods including peanut butter, fish and meat as well as paper products. Any such items brought to our monthly meetings will be delivered to the pantry. Cash and checks are welcome.
