Let’s remember: half of all Americans have below average intelligence. In a nation of 328,200,000 that’s 164,100,000 people looking up at the mid-line. Within that number, millions and millions are really stupid.
Lie often and loud – especially on FOX News, One America News, NEWSMAX, Alex Jones’ podcasts as well as on local right wingnut radio KMOX and 97.1 FM – and a significant portion of those stupid people will support sedition, lawlessness, xenophobia, racism and “alternative truth” because they have listened and they have learned.
So, as promised and recruited, tens of thousands of stupid people gathered in Washington, D.C. yesterday. There president’s lawyer called for “trial by combat.” The president’s daughter lauded them as “American Patriots.” And, President Donald Trump said “we” need to march to the Capitol to force “weak Republicans” to ignore the Constitution and steal the election so he could illegally remain in power.
When the mob got to the Capitol, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley showed them his support as he entered the building to try to overturn the will of the majority of American voters.
In other words, elections don’t stop stupid people from finding work. While Congress followed its Constitutional duty to formally accept the states’ election reports, the majority of Republican members of the House of Representatives voted to deny every Pennsylvania voter’s vote from being counted. The House objectors were joined by Hawley and better than a handful of Republican Senators. A similar number of Republicans voted to take away Arizonans’ vote too. A mis-dialed phone call by Rudy Giuliani last night revealed a plan to contest votes from 10 states – and disenfranchise more than a third of all American voters!
A few strong words by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Trump fanboy Lindsey Graham don’t erase their years of slurping Donald Trump’s butt, nor does it excuse the support they and other GOP leaders gave ‘alternative truth.’ Giving an alcoholic a case of cheap vodka means you can’t complain when they piss in your front yard.
Now, while the orange clown will leave the White House later this month, his lies and the hate they engendered will endure.
Remember, it took a long line of Republican miscreants beginning with Roger Stone (Tricky Dickie’s biggest fan) and Newt Gingrich to get the GOP to a place where Donald Trump could waltz in, lie and take over. After five years of Trump that portion of America which believes his every word won’t go away. As I’ve noted, they’ve listened and they’ve learned.
And – after a couple of days of hand wringing due to the Capitol attack – expect Fox News, et al to return to promoting conspiracy theories about the stolen election and the socialist/communist plot to destroy America. President Biden will be the new ‘should die’ enemy, just like Barrack Obama and Bill Clinton. Right wing media makes billions peddling impossible fairy tales. Money always beats morality.
America 2021 won’t be a friendly place. The political fabric won’t be patched – can’t be patched – for generations to come. The forces which tore America support remain in place. And, it only talks a small portion of the stupid people to storm the Capitol in Washington (or in Jefferson City).
