The traffic lights on Telegraph Road (especially after dark) only stop the north – south flow when a vehicle wanting to make a left onto the highway rests on a sensor pad on a side street.
Walking by a bit before midnight, I watched the north and south lights at Gebhardt go yellow, then red as a SUV waited. About three seconds after the red on Telegraph (and green arrow on Gebhardt), a pick-up truck headed south and a pony car going north blew through their reds at almost the exact instant.
Fortunately, a St. Louis County police Ford Explorer was less than half a block behind the pick-up, in the perfect place to ignore the law breakers.
Yes, ignoring red lights at night lacks the visceral impact of killing a Capitol cop but it remains part of the same trend – ignoring laws.
A nation of laws, not of men.
Time and again since the 18th Century Americans declared this nation different. Not ruled by the whims of a tyrant but by set, enacted law. Leader after leader, President after President repeated the mantra.
Until Donald Trump.
The Supreme Court didn’t help us…Only us can help us.
Capitol storm trooper on CNN
An elected President who swore to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States told a mob he invited to Washington to march to the United States Capitol and force the elected members of Congress to ignore the certified election results of states he didn’t win, ignore the law, and, instead approve phony numbers that give him four more years of power…
You will have a president who lost all of these states, or you will have a president to put it another way, who was voted on by a bunch of stupid people who lost all of these things. You will have an illegitimate president, that’s what you’ll have. And we can’t let that happen.
Donald Trump Speech “Save America” Rally Transcript January 6 – Rev
“And we can’t let that happen.” America can’t follow its laws.
Note how Missouri Senator Josh Hawley ignored what he learned in law school, forgot what he said in his oaths as Missouri Attorney General and as a United States Senator to back Trump’s call for lawlessness. And, recall that the majority of Republican members of the House of Representatives – including five of six elected by Missourians – endorsed ignoring the law too.
In sane times, politicians complain about the law but follow it or work within the system to change the law. Trump’s America exists beyond law, in a realm where desired outcomes at any costs are the acceptable goal.
One of today’s rumors is that President Trump will pardon all the Capitol storm troopers, including any associated with the police officer’s death. Why not. The law against murder, like the law against running red lights, doesn’t mean anything any more to Trump and his ilk.
Watch your back America. Don’t expect sanity. Prepare for Trump to endorse more lies, more law breaking and more sedition.
Oh yes, the driver wanting to turn on to Telegraph anticipated the lawlessness and waited till the two miscreants had passed. If he’s that careful, he must be a Democrat.
