Apply for St. Louis County Bipartisan Reapportionment Committee!
Applications Must be Submitted by 5:00 pm October 27.
This week the County announced that applications are open to fill two current vacancies and one expected vacancy on the St. Louis county redistricting commission, known as the St. Louis County Council Bipartisan Reapportionment Commission, a full description of which can be found at https://boards.stlouisco.com/board/82.
Every ten years, following the Census, the Commission determines the new boundaries of the County Council districts. The Commission is truly bipartisan – being made up of one Democrat and one Republican from each of the seven County Council districts. Dr. Page appoints the members from a list that each party provides.
Unfortunately, after having already been appointed, two members (one Democrat and one Republican) are now unable to serve. There is also a third anticipated vacancy (Republican).
The Commission’s work has already begun – its next meeting is in less than two weeks, on November 1. Therefore, there is a very short timeline to find and appoint replacement members.
The current vacancies include one Democrat from District 7 and one Republican from District 2. Applications are also being accepted for another potential Republican vacancy in District 4.
To be eligible, you must hold no other public office or public employment and be a registered voter in the Council district that you are applying to represent. Maps for each County Council district are available at https://stlouiscountymo.gov/st-louis-county-government/county-council/.
Applicants should submit their online application no later than 5:00 p.m. October 27 (Wednesday).
To apply, go through the online portal at https://boards.stlouisco.com
and follow the directions under “Apply for a Board or Commission.”
Again, the timeline for appointing replacement members is very short – so please help spread the word about this important opportunity to serve our community!
