Hillary Clinton’s Achievements

Children & Families

  • Co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families
  • Staff Attorney for Children’s Defense Fund
  • Created Arkansas’s Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth
  • Promoted nationwide immunization against childhood illnesses
  • Successfully sought to increase research funding for childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health
  • As Senator, introduced the Family Entertainment Protection Act, intended to protect children from inappropriate content found in video games.
  • Helped to lay ground work to ensure all children, regardless of disability, get an education through work with CDF in Massachusetts
  • Worked with teenagers incarcerated in adult prisons in South Carolina
  • After health care reform failed, she successfully lobbied for passage of a Children’s Health Insurance Program for States.  Today CHIPS provides health care to 8 million children.
  • Instrumental in the creation of the Adoption and Safe Families Act and the Foster Care Independence Act

Worked for Women

  • At the Dept. of Justice, helped create the office of Violence Against Women.
  • In 1995, at a UN Conference in Beijing, she declared that ‘women’s rights are human rights” – a controversial stand at the time.  She noted that drowning babies because they were female or selling girls into prostitution was a violation of human rights.

Veterans’ Health Care

  • Spearheaded investigations into mental illnesses plaguing veterans of the Gulf War (Gulf War syndrome)
  • Worked to expand health care access for members of the National Guard and reservists and their families when they returned home
  • Worked to expand the Family Medical Leave Act, allowing families of those wounded in service to their country to take leave in order to care for their loved ones

Education

  • Led a task force that reformed Arkansas’s education system
  • Created Arkansas’s Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth
  • Helped to lay ground work to ensure all children, regardless of physical ability, get an education through work with CDF, which led to passage of theDisability Education Act.
  • Joined CDF as a young staff attorney right out of law school and knocked on doors to research and help prepare CDF’s first landmark report, Children Out of School in America – a major catalyst for the enactment of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (now the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

Health Care

  • As Senator from New York, worked to make sure 9/11 first responders got the long term health care they needed
  • Promoted nationwide immunization against childhood diseases
  • Successfully sought to increase research funding for childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health
  • After health care reform failed, lobbied for passage of a children’s Health Insurance Program for states.  Today CHIPS provides health care to 8 million children.
  • Successfully fought to increase research funding for prostate cancer

Foreign Policy

  • As SOS, negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
  • Traveled to 112 countries as SOS & is the most traveled SOS in history.
  • Visited 79 countries as First Lady

Other

  • Instrumental in securing over $21 billion in funding for the World Trade Center redevelopment
  • Worked across the aisle to address civil liberty abuses for the renewal of the US Patriot Act
