A Libertarian friend of mine recently shared his frustration with Democrats because of their use of “identity politics.” (Meaning, I guess, ‘Wouldn’t we all be better off if Black Lives Matter and other niche activists would just get along and start seeing people as just people?’) I reminded him that it is not liberals that are hyping fear of black people, brown people, gay people, immigrants, organized labor, feminists, teachers, Muslims, environmentalists, working poor, academics and non-evangelical Christians. He should not be surprised when people unjustly targeted push back.
At the suggestion of another WCD member, consider this Army Signal Corp production from 1943.
I can’t remember a single Republican initiative of the last 50 years that has actually benefited the people of the United States of America; and it is a well known marketing strategy that when you have nothing to sell, you sell Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. That is the singular political tactic that has kept the Republican party winning for the last five decades, AND it has brutally divided the people of our country for political purpose. Beyond that, the conservative media has grown rich by festering this divisiveness into hate for fellow Americans. It is an expansive and well funded con game that treats us all like suckers.
But in 2018, you’ve still got America and still have the freedom to make a difference. Vote in November for candidates and policies that bring us together for the common good.
