Topic: Mass Incarceration Community Initiative: An overview of the criminal justice system, the devastating consequences of mass incarceration, testimonial from an impacted individual and community involvement.
Speakers:
Samantha Stangl has Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Iowa and a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. Samantha spent nearly a decade providing direct social work services with children and families. Samantha currently manages the Mass Incarceration Community Education Initiative at the Clark-Fox Family Foundation, volunteers with YouthBridge Foundation and Ava’s Grace, and was recently named an Emerging Leader Distinguished Alumni from the Brown School of Social Work.
Jacob Eikenberry completed his MSW degree at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. Jacob is currently pursuing a PhD at Saint Louis University. Informing his work and efforts to change the narrative about incarceration, Jacob had many traumatic experiences as a youth, became an IV drug user, experienced bouts of homelessness, and served an aggregate of 3 ½ years in state prisons and jails across 9 states. Sober now for 10 years, Jacob is a content expert on mass incarceration in the United States.
– Circle of Concern, a local food pantry supported by West County Democrats, is collecting canned goods including peanut butter, fish and meat as well as paper products. Any such items brought to our monthly meetings will be delivered to the pantry. Cash and checks are welcome.
